Managing it effectively is essential to protect the Danube\u2019s ecosystem while ensuring safe, efficient navigation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 25 February 2026, more than 20 experts from Danube Commission (DC) Member States \u2014 Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine \u2014 met online to review the second updated <em>Recommendations for Organising the Collection of Ship-Generated Waste in Danube Navigation<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.danubecommission.org\/uploads\/doc\/2022\/waste_recommendations\/en_rec_waste.pdf\">doc. DK\/TAG 97\/15<\/a>) \u00a0which provide technical and administrative guidance to Danube River Administrations. The informal expert meeting was chaired by Mr. Vladyslav Dolynskyi (Ukraine), with representatives of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdni-iwt.org\/\">CDNI<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/unece.org\/\">UNECE<\/a> \u00a0and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.savacommission.org\/\">Sava Commission<\/a> contributing actively.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>\u201cOur aim is to produce a technically perfect document that complies with all international documents and standards<\/em><\/strong>,\u201d said representative of DC Secretariat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The draft reflects Member States\u2019 practical experience and aligns Danube rules with key European frameworks, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdni-iwt.org\/?lang=en\">CDNI system<\/a>, the new <a href=\"https:\/\/transport.ec.europa.eu\/transport-themes\/infrastructure-and-investment\/trans-european-transport-network-ten-t_en\">TEN-T regulation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cesni.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/ES-QIN_2024_signed_en.pdf\">ES-QIN 2024\/1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/unece.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-01\/ADN%202025%20English.pdf\">ADN 2025<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cesni.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ES_TRIN_2025_signed_en.pdf\">ES-TRIN 2025\/1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Discussions focused on terminology, structure and enforceability, with technical input from UNECE and CDNI experts. Participants also addressed the draft ISO standard \u2018Ship-generated waste management and handling on inland waterway vessels\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/committee\/45816.html\">ISO\/TC 8\/SC 2<\/a>), the planned 2027 introduction of an electronic used-oil log under CDNI, and alternative fuels \u2014 particularly HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). Existing HVO provisions under Part A of the CDNI Implementation Regulation and the DC Recommendations will remain in force.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Additional written contributions are due by the end of March. Results will be presented to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.danubecommission.org\/dc\/en\/danube-commission\/schedule-of-meetings-and-meetings-of-the-dc\/\">WG Tech on 13 May 2026<\/a>. The next regular Expert Meeting on Ship-Generated Waste (EM Waste) will take place on 25 February 2027, with adoption of the final Recommendations foreseen in June 2027.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chair Dolynskyi underlined the broader significance of the DC Recommendations:<br \/>\n<strong>\u201cIt\u2019s important work for our environment, for our children, for our people, for our citizens.
