Secretariats of the Danube and Rhine Commissions Hold Coordination Meeting

On 10 March 2026, the Secretariats of the Danube Commission and the Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine held a coordination meeting in Budapest.

In addition to analysing the long-standing excellent cooperation, e.g. in the field of market observation and within the framework of CESNI, areas for further collaboration and their priorities were discussed. Current and future developments in the European inland waterway transport policy as well as technical and economic changes were analysed with regard to the work of the Secretariats and views were exchanged.

The meeting also served as an opportunity for an intensive exchange of experiences and procedures in the work of the Secretariats and in the renewal of their administrative structures and procedures. The results of the detailed discussions should lead to even closer collaboration and an updated version of the cooperation agreement between the Secretariats, which has been in force since 2011.

The heads of the Secretariats agreed to hold meetings at management level at regular intervals in future.
