CCNR

The Danube Commission maintains a long-standing and trusted partnership with the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR), built on regular exchanges, joint expertise and a shared responsibility for the development of European inland navigation. This cooperation includes mutual invitations to plenary sessions and technical meetings and was formally anchored in a joint declaration in 2001.

A prominent area of cooperation is the regular preparation of reports on the economic situation of European inland navigation, where the Danube Commission provides essential expertise and data, including on EU solidarity lanes. The partnership also extends to sustainability and digitalisation, the greening of the fleet.

As part of the cooperation with the CCNR, the Danube Commission has been hosting several CESNI meetings in Budapest, allowing experts from the Danube countries to actively participate in the work of CESNI across technical, social, economic, and digital domains.
