Danube Commission represented at the 8th Meeting of the Parties to the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin (FASRB)

 

The representative of the Danube Commission, General Director of the Secretariat, Mr. Manfred Seitz participated on October 24, 2019 in Sarajevo at the 8th Meeting of the Parties to the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin.

The key objective of the meeting was to consider the status of implementation of the FASRB as well as to discuss key challenges, particularly those related to the cooperation in the river basin management, to the flood risk management activities, and to the rehabilitation of navigation.

In the meeting, Mr. Seitz delivered a statement under the agenda item entitled “Partners in cooperation – addresses of the partners of International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC)”.

He stressed the importance of rehabilitating the Sava waterway for the development of the entire Danube waterway transport system and referred to the Joint Statement of Inland Navigation and Environmental protection as vital instrument for planning and executing river-engineering projects which improve the navigational conditions at the same time with the environmental functioning of the river. Mr. Seitz also praised the excellent cooperation with ISRBC in general and in particular regarding the Joint Statement where both Commission work closely together with ICPDR – International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River.
