Second workshop: Linking Türkiye by Danube

The Secretariat of the Danube Commission, together with DP WORLD Constanța, organized the second edition of the Danube Transport Promotion Event “Linking Türkiye by Danube” on July 10, 2025, at the DP WORLD Terminal in the Port of Constanța, Romania.

The aim of the event was to promote the use of the Danube waterway and its ports for freight transport between the Danube region and Türkiye. With the first workshop, held in Budapest in June 2024, the DC Secretariat sought to create a platform for cooperation between inland waterway transport operators on the Danube and Türkish authorities and companies in order to facilitate freight transport on the Danube and enable successful transport and logistics operations on the Danube. The second workshop was attended by over 50 participants, including representatives of the public authorities of Romania and Türkiye, the European Commission, and the business community from Romania, Türkiye, and Hungary.

In their welcoming speeches, H.E. Özgür Kıvanç Altan, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Romania, and Manfred Seitz, Director General of the Secretariat of the Danube Commission, highlighted the potential for developing logistics for freight transport on the Danube from Türkiye’s ports. Mr. Alexandru Crăciun, Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs in Eastern Europe at DP World, presented the company’s activities worldwide and in the port of Constanța, with a focus on the newly established RORO connection between Constanța and Karasu.

The European Coordinator for the European Maritime Space, representatives from the EC DG/MOVE, Ministries of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania and Türkiye, Ministry of Trade of Türkiye presented the possibilities for the improvement of transport relations between the Danube region and Türkiye, increasing the potential of the Danube River waterway.

From the business perspective, representatives from DP World, International Transporters Association of Türkiye (UND), Sea Container Services, and Pro Danube International engaged in a fruitful discussion about current opportunities, necessary framework conditions and future cooperation between the Danube region and Türkiye.

The event was followed by a Business-to-Business Networking session, as well as visits to the DPW Constanta Terminal and a Constanța Port tour.

The Third Türkiye – Danube transport promotion event is planned for 8-9 July 2026 in Varna, Bulgaria.
